The Office of the Social Secretary is proud to present the seventh installment from the Goldenberg Concert Series featuring 17 year old cello prodigy, Mr. Damodar Das Castillo.
The young cellist established his reputation at the age of 7 when he became the youngest member of the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra [ MSJO ], where he would be their frequent featured soloist. He began taking formal lessons with Dr. Renato Lucas in 2015 and would go on to win 2nd prize
in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists [ NAMCYA ] Junior Strings Category, making him the youngest winner that year. Damodar is currently enrolled in pre-college at Mozarteum University Salzburg under Professor Barbara Lübke-Herzl. He was recently offered a scholarship to further his studies under Professor Valentin Radutiu at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden.
The two-time Ani ng Dangal Awardee in Music [ 2021 and 2022 ] went on to garner top prizes in prestigious international competitions including :
The Young Musician in Tallinn, Estonia.
The International Anton Rubinstein Competition Cello Junior in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The Young Ludwig Youth Music Competition Age Group 2 in Berlin, Germany.
The Musica Goritiensis International Music Competition Category C in Gorizia, Italy.
The concert took place on the 4th of October 2024, at the majestic Goldenberg Mansion. The show had two sets with a designated audience from various educational institutions at 2pm and 5pm. The 2pm show welcomed musically inclined students from GSIS Village Elementary School, Balingasa Elementary School, New Era High School and the Philippine Women’s University - Jose Abad Santos Memorial School. The 5pm show was flocked by students from
Far Eastern University High School and Mariano Marcos Memorial High School.
The students were left inspired and in awe by the young Filipino prodigy who, at such a young age, is quite accomplished in the world of music with international performances under his belt. The students were entertained by the stellar performance of the young Castillo at the enchanting Goldenberg Mansion.
