The Office of the Social Secretary is proud to present the sixth installment from the Goldenberg Concert Series featuring pianist, Mr. Aidan Baracol and clarinetist, Mr. Franz Jensen Andra.
Sibol means to grow and cultivate, such as these two young and talented artists who displayed their world class skill on the piano and clarinet.
The concert took place on the 6th of September 2024, at the historic Goldenberg Mansion. The show ran twice with a designated audience from various educational institutions at 2pm and 5pm.
Aidan Baracol is a 19 year old prodigious young pianist, who began his musical journey with an early passion for rhythm expressed through drums. His formal piano training began later under the mentorship of Prof. Godofredo Areza, where his talent flourished enough to earn a full scholarship at the Philippine High School for the Arts at the National Arts Centre. He studied under the guidance of Prof. Josue Greg Zuniega and in 2019, began his formal piano study with Prof. Anthony Say. He is recognized for his exceptional potential and is also one of the Cultural Center of the Philippines' [ CCP ] Young Music scholars.
Aidan is currently a first-year undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music in London under the tutelage of Joanna MacGregor. He has won top prizes in over sixteen local and international piano competitions over the last three years, the most notable of which is the 2020 National Music Competition for Young Artists Junior Piano Competition. His most recent performance at the Duke's Hall, Royal Academy of Music was part of a festival featuring the keyboard work of Kurtag.
Franz Jensen Andra is a clarinetist, who hails from a musical family and began his musical training at the tender age of 9. He is currently a scholar at the Philippine High School for the Arts, where he has received Outstanding Student Awards and the Highest Honors. He is now under the guidance of Prof. Ariel Sta. Ana, and is simultaneously mentored by Spanish professor, Juan Luis Barantes. He has received multiple awards and has won competitions both, locally and internationally. In 2022, he was given the Ani ng Dangal Award, which is given to a Filipino artist in recognition of their achievements.
In 2023, he won first prize at the Thailand International Clarinet Competition, and in the same year, he also won first prize and best interpretation of the contest piece at the National Competition for Young Artist Woodwinds category. Franz participates actively in the Philippine concert music scene and is a concertmaster for various bands, including the Sta. Cecilia Band, the General Trias Youth Band and the Philippine Youth Symphonic Band. Very recently, Franz passed the auditions for the Asian Youth Orchestra. He will be part of the Summer Festival, and is currently on an Asian tour with the orchestra from July to September.
The 5pm show welcomed students from Signal Village National High School and Makati Science High School.
The 2pm show was flocked by musically inclined students from Project 6 Elementary School, Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School, Lucrecia Kasilag Senior High School and the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior High School.
The students were left inspired and in awe by the young Filipino duo who have pursued their craft both locally and in different parts of the world. The students were entertained by the performance of pure musicians in the most majestic of settings.
